Twitter in Ghana, Ahmed Musa in Kano, #PantamiResign

Hi guys! Trust you had a great week. Are you planning a getaway or working through the weekend? Whatever your plan, take a moment to sit back and relax as we bring you the many trends that have been making the rounds across social media.

Sorry Nigeria, Twitter Goes to Ghana

As you may well know by now, Jack Dorsey’s Twitter shunned Nigeria to open its first Africa office in neighbouring Ghana.

Many people were clearly disappointed at the news, but not too surprised due to Nigeria’s ill repute for stifling innovation, suppressing free speech as well as poor infrastructure and insecurity.

Jack put Twitter headquarters for Ghana because he know say una no dey get light for Nigeria

Why did Twitter choose Ghana as HQ?

1. Champion for democracy,
2. Supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet,
3. Ghana’s hosting The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Congratulations to me brothers in Ghana. We be the headqwaters of twitter Africa. Dem Nigerians be crying. With they president wey don pass menopause. God bless Ghena.

— SHANK COMICS🌝 (@Obacruze) April 12, 2021

However, a number of the Twitter roles are targeted at Nigerians including an opening for an Editorial Curator Lead fluent in English Pidgin, Yoruba and Igbo.

It appears Twitter has tried to eat its cake and have it by opening an office in Ghana focused on Nigeria. Some see the company’s entry into Africa as a win for the continent.

Amazon (South Africa),
Facebook (Nigeria)
Google (Nigeria, Ghana),
Microsoft (Nigeria, Kenya)
Twitter (Ghana).

Instead of Nigerians to see it as a win for the Continent, we are acting like a Jealous 2nd wife.

🤦🏾‍♂️✌🏾🚶🏾‍♂️

Facebook opened their office in Nigeria, Twitter opened in Ghana. For me it’s a win for West Africa!

Well, it is what it is.

Ahmed Musa Rejoins Kano Pillars

E shock you? During the week, Super Eagle’s Captain, Ahmed Musa rejoined his boyhood club, Kano Pillars in a deal that would see the former Leicester forward remain at the club until the end of the season.

Ahmed Musa’s unveiling by Kano Pillars

Musa, who has also played at Dutch club VVV-Venlo and Russian side CSKA Moscow rejoins Kano Pillars after 11 years. The new Kano Pillars’ number 7 was widely lauded for the rather surprising move.

I salute Ahmed Musa’s decision to come back home to rejoin Kano Pillars. 💪🏼🇳🇬

— Wale Adetona (@iSlimfit) April 13, 2021

Ahmed Musa’s return to Kano Pillars is one of the best strategy to improve and attract interest in our local football teams and National league. After global come local. Its better than hanging and idling in Europe. There will always be a place for you at home.@thenff

— Senator Shehu Sani (@ShehuSani) April 14, 2021

In my opinion, Ahmed Musa (Kano Pillars) has a better ring than Ahmed Musa (unattached).
Good decision for him.

— What A Rush! (@iamMightyGeorge) April 12, 2021

NPFL go so make sense watch. With Ahmed musa joining the pillars for the rest of the season, it will be all competitive.

— Cheesie (@I_cheesie) April 13, 2021

Ahmed Musa has decided to Join Kano Pillars for the rest of the season. A singular act that has given him more reputation in the eyes of Nigerians. Being one of the richest footballers in Nigeria does not give him that Ego to denigrate his home base team. Kudos Mycar7

Pantami faces Calls to Resign over Jihadist Comments

Some Nigerians have called for the resignation of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami over comments he allegedly made on Taliban/Al-Qaeda activities and a video where he reportedly expressed his disapproval of political appointments.

Dr Isa Ali Pantami

This Pantami issue is far more serious than we treat it to be. I had this nightmare last night where Boko Haram had the data and location details of every single Nigerian, including the president. Pantami has to resign and answer the law. We’re in danger!! #PantamiResign

— Chukwumaobim (@MOMPERE55) April 16, 2021

I will not join you people and have that “it was in the past” conversation, because it’s same as arguing “if a repented Boko Haram member can become a minister?”
Terrorism is not a drinking habit you drop in the past; Pantami should resign immediately. #PantamiResign

— Somto Onuchukwu (@chosensomto) April 16, 2021

He condemned his colleagues who took public appointments and vowed never to join them.

— Peoples Gazette (@GazetteNGR) April 15, 2021

Pantami has become a spin doctor. He’s trying to bury the bad news of his dangerous Salafist jihadism with the good news of SIM registration. Kolewerk.
Sheikh, you’ve no business in government! Waka.

— Great Oracle (@AbdulMahmud01) April 15, 2021

In serious countries, Isa Pantami’s firing would have been a given and not even debated. The discussion would have been the number of heads that should roll at the DSS, the agency that screened him and failed to spot his dangerous past. But Nigeria is not a serious country.

— Mazi Gburugburu (@Mazigburugburu1) April 15, 2021

However, the #PantamiResign hashtag has now been countered with #pantamiwillstay.

Breaking News…

TwitterNG: US Placed Pantami on Terrorist Watch-list.

TwitterNG: Concerned Nigerians Petitions US to place Pantami on Terrorist Watch-list.

Bunch of confused people. Go and do your NIN jare.#PantamiWillStay
