SOUTH AFRICAN COMEDIAN, TREVOR NOAH MAKES AFRICANS PROUD ON FIRST NIGHT AT THE DAILY SHOW

“Growing up in the dusty street of south Africa I never dreamed I would one day have two things – an indoor toilet and a job as a the host of a daily show.” – Trevor Noah’s opening remark.

On Monday night, South African comedian, Trevor Noah hosted his first episode of the American television program, “The Daily Show” after taking over from Jon Stewart who retired recently. To the surprise of everyone, Trevor handled the show in what can be termed a ‘review-worthy’ performance.  His performance comes six months after his appointment as new host was announced.

During the show, the South African comedian said a number of Americans had been asked but had turned the offer down. “A job that Americans have rejected is once again being done by an immigrant”, Trevor joked.

However, it will likely take a while for people who are used to Jon Stewart on the Daily Show to appreciate Trevor. Noah was on the receiving end of some negative criticism on his qualification for hosting the show.  People also lamented that the structure of his joke, the funny voices and snide asides, sounded just like Stewart’s. However, given that it was his first day on the job, there’s reason to believe Trevor will find his own stride in time.
