President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in South Africa to meet with President Cyril Ramaphosa.

eNCA reports that while the meeting had been scheduled before the violence that targeted foreign nationals, it is set to be the focus of discussions.

The aim of the visit had been business with South Africa and Nigeria both struggling to kickstart flagging economies.

Briefly.co.za reported that special diplomatic envoys had been sent to do damage control after the incidents of violence spilled over into other countries.

South African business interests in Nigeria had been forced to close doors as citizens protested the poor treatment being suffered by their countrymen in Mzansi.

The Citizen reports that trade between Nigeria and South Africa had come in at R50.8 billion for 2018 alone.

During his three-day stay in South Africa, Buhari is expected to hold talks with Nigerians living in the country to hear their experiences.

The president is also expected to push for compensation to be paid to be those affected by the violence.

Analysts feel that despite best efforts, the visit is unlikely to do much in the way of bolstering relations between the two nations.
