International bowlers roll in for tournament

Dalpark’s Koko Bowling Centre was filled with activity last week as some of Africa’s top tenpin bowlers showed up for special training and to compete.

The week started with a special coaching programme that was overseen by Mark Hearthorn.

The coaching clinic was presented to bowlers from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Mauritius.

“The event was concluded by these bowlers participating in the African Development Championship. Every bowler showed how much they had learnt. The improvement was phenomenal,” said Tenpin Bowling Association South Africa vice-president Kiley Cassel.

Cassel complimented her counterparts from other countries.

“The event was attended by Charles Amofah who is the Ghana Bowling Federation president. Olu Bowler of Nigeria has a bowling technique and skills that are impressive. Mashoud Emamsaib of Mauritius participated with great enthusiasm,” she said.

There were dignitaries from all over, even from the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

“This event was an exciting success for the growth of our sport on the African continent, forging lifelong friendships with the common goal of developing African bowlers.”

“The event was not about the different nations competing but it was more about them, the different nations, being coached and forging relationships between the nations.

“Thank you to the federations that accepted the invitation and to all the participants accepting the formidable opportunity,” she said.

“We look forward to this event becoming an annual one with more federations coming to the event.”

Koko’s is one of the top bowling venues in the country as they regularly host the national championships in April.

Their reputation will continue to grow with them hosting international events.
