Ghana’s National Film Authority has forged a partnership with FilmOne Group from Nigeria and Silverbird Cinema from Ghana. The collaboration will host the inaugural African Cinema Summit in Accra, Ghana.
The African Cinema Summit
Scheduled from Nov. 14 to Nov. 16, the summit will unfold at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel and Silverbird Cinema in the Ghanaian capital. A panorama of contemporary African films will illuminate the event, complemented by industry-focused sessions encompassing tailored business matchmaking events. The summit would also include panel discussions, keynote addresses by African industry luminaries and exclusive networking opportunities.
The First Summit of Its Kind
The NFA touts the African Cinema Summit as a groundbreaking gathering. It would become the first of its kind dedicated to the cinematic arts across the continent. With a spotlight on prevailing trends, distinctive challenges and latent prospects within African cinema and distribution networks, the African Cinema Summit arrives as a resounding clarion call.

“Africa is cinema’s greatest opportunity in the 21st century, and the Africa Cinema Summit serves as a call and pathway to realizing the potential of cinema for both the people of Africa and the cinema world globally,” said Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, CEO of the National Film Authority of Ghana.
As over 40 percent of the global youth population resides in Africa, the African Cinema Summit assumes a timely significance. This pioneering assembly will shine a spotlight on the cinema ecosystem’s rapid growth on the continent. It will also extend its allure to a global audience.
Nigeria’s FilmOne Group
Moses Babatope, co-Founder of Nigeria’s FilmOne Group, expressed his excitement about the NFA.
“Bringing together industry leaders and visionaries to shape the future of cinema business in Africa,” he said. “The collective vision is to foster a dynamic platform for industry players to converge, interact and forge robust partnerships that will galvanize the cinema ecosystem in Africa.”
Funmi Onuma of Silverbird Cinemas echoed this sentiment, viewing the ACS as a stepping stone towards an exciting future for the film industry.
“We see this relationship with the NFA for the ACS as a positive step since it will set the platform for meaningful industry discussions and help forge a more exciting future for the film industry,” Onuma said.
