Filecoin Africa Hosts FVM Workshop, Hackathon In Ghana

Filecoin Africa through Filecoin Orbit Community Ghana held its workshop on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Impact Hub, Accra, Ghana.

This workshop is a series in one of Filecoin Africa’s Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) roadshows announced over a month ago on Blockbuild.

Co-moderated by Brighton, a Cassava ambassador and Bee Network Administrator, the Ghana FVM roadshow brought together a stellar lineup of speakers, each delivering their unique expertise at the FVM Workshop. Blockchain enthusiasts and experts across Ghana also graced the event.

Opening the workshop, Enoch Mbaebie, Filecoin Orbit Regional Lead, Middle East and Africa, mentioned that the roadshow was a series of FVM workshops that started in Morocco, Nigeria, now Ghana, others are Kigali, Tanzania, Egypt, South Africa.

He urged the participants to get set for a thrilling experience as they would receive insights from industry leaders in blockchain.

Robert Dowling, Program Manager for Filecoin Foundation introduced the concept of the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) as a computer program that runs inside the Filecoin network. Storing a file on Filecoin requires you to send it to the FVM.

The FVM also connects people who need storage space with those who have space to spare. The FVM is a decentralized data storage and it comes with boundless opportunities.

Speaking further on the significance of the FVM, Ubong Nkantah, a blockchain enthusiast also added his thoughts.

Since the Filecoin blockchain is now on the mainnet, it can now support smart contracts and user programmability through the FVM, thus unlocking the enormous potential of an open data economy.

Kingsley Cobbold, Founder, at Youth in Crypto, discussed the concept of blockchain, web3 and cryptocurrency.

He explained the evolution of traditional currency and how the invention of blockchain became a necessity for the evolution of crypto. Finally, he touched down on the future of web3.

Akakpo Ernest, Director, at Youth in Crypto in his own address unveiled the revolutionary potential of blockchain technology.

Likem Dzokoto, a Graph Advocate and blockchain developer, at Graph Protocol discussed how to enhance a decentralized open API economy through building subgraphs.

Mohammad Fattal, CEO at Sky Suite spoke about “Tokenizing Real Estate”, explaining how tokens represent specific portions of property values.

With tokenization, investors can easily buy and sell tokens on blockchain-based marketplaces. Tokenization offers flexibility and accessibility to the real estate market by leveraging the capabilities of blockchain.

Finally, Abena, Co-founder of Ethereum Accra, discussed the upcoming ETHAccra hackathon happening on September 7th – 9th, 2023.
