The Cavagna Group expanded into West Africa with a subsidiary servicing countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) regions.

Basile Katche, managing director at Cavagna, has years of expertise in the marine oil and gas business and will lead the new business unit.

Local operations began in August with the business office and warehouse facilities established in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The ECOWAS region will include nations such as Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Niger and Nigeria, Ghana and Mauritania.

The new subsidiary will represent and promote Cavagna Group’s business in the LPG markets, industrial gases, medical gases, natural gas regulation, metering and engineering services.

“Africa is very important for our group, and it is fundamental for us to have a direct local presence in strategic geopolitical and economic areas,” says Rino Cavagna, the executive vice president of sales at Cavagna. “This new company, which joins our other company in the southern part of Africa, highlights how our strategy is based on an awareness that Africa is certain to see significant growth in the gas market over the next 20 years.”

Cavagna began investing within Africa in 2021 when Cavagna Group South Africa Pty opened in Johannesburg to serve the Southern African Development Community.

The Cavagna Group provides integrated solutions for the control, regulation, metering and storage of compressed gases. It was founded in 1949 in northern Italy, near Brescia.
