While Ghana is suffering you are there traveling

– An accountability group says it does not support the president’s travels

– Nana Addo is currently in the UK for a 10-day leave

– The group says the president’s travels are making Ghana poor

The leave days taken by President Akufo-Addo has been described as ‘indiscriminate’ by an accountability group which is embarking on a move to question the sanity of the president’s long travels.

The group, Alliance for Social Equity & Public Accountability (ASEPA), is worried that the president’s trip is draining the coffers of the country.

“We are just about 5 months in the New Year and the President’s travel tally outside the country is almost hitting 20,” a statement signed and issued by the Executive Secretary of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson said.

According to the group, Nana Addo’s presidential travels cost between 76,000 and 110,000 dollars per travel – a huge amount that could even be used to fund some of the projects government is struggling so much to complete.

Touching on the leave hours of the president to the United Kingdom, the association asked the president to be very careful about that decision. They say the situation is negatively affecting the economy of Ghana.

“The country is bedeviled with series of challenges; the issue of graduate unemployment has become quite a topical issue following the launch of NaBCo and all we hear is the President is taking a break. Taking a break from what precisely?” it asked.

Meanwhile, the president is expected back to the country by the end of the week.
