, NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 – The World Chambers Federation (WCF) president Peter Mihok has called for sustainable development and urged the chambers to play more proactive role by providing initiatives to allow chamber members the opportunity to share expertise and pool in innovative ideas.
Mihok spoke alongside Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) national chairman Kiprono Kittony flanked by other African chamber leaders.
“KNCCI is the highly appreciated by the World Chambers because of its structure increasing membership and recognition by the state. We hope to not only see the Kenya Chamber but other African chambers and business leaders at the 11WCC, which will take place in Rio in June 2019,” Mihok said.
The delegation currently in the country for a two days seminar later paid a courtesy call to President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House led by Trade, Industry and Cooperative Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.
The delegation is seeking to expedite realisation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and promoting intra-Africa trade.
At State House, the delegation discussed with the president varying issues including role of chamber in driving growth, fight against corruption, AfCFTA, KNCCI elections in 2019.
The chamber plays great role towards the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) by providing a networking platform, strong voice for advocacy and trade facilitation for better working condition.
“In face of the global challenges, chambers should continue to remain strong entities by communicating, learning from each other and aiming for a common mission in order to become truly sustainable,” said Mihok.
WCF is the global organisation for chambers of commerce and industry worldwide.
Other African Africa Chamber Leaders were drawn from Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia and Sychelles among others.
“We believe that the discussions we intend to hold will chart a way forward towards unlocking the potential of opening up trade amongst African businesses and provide new innovative ways to tackle existing bottlenecks to governments and other non-state players.” Kittony said.
