Nigeria vs South Africa live streaming: Match preview

A huge shock on Saturday night in Cairo.

South Africa scrapped through the group stages as a third-placed finisher so went into their round of 16 tie with hosts Egypt as huge underdogs.

The Cairo International Stadium was packed to the rafters and everybody expected a comfortable win for the hosts.

However, Egypt were not at their best and they could not find a goat.

Then, with just five minutes remaining, the unthinkable happened.

Lebo Mothiba squared the ball to Thembinkosi Lorch who cooly finished.

South Africa lead!

Egypt could not find an equaliser and the hosts crashed out.

Stuart Baxter’s Bafana Bafana, who had been so underwhelming in the group stags, will have to replicate Saturday’s performance to have any chance here.

Nigeria were involved in a thrilling tie on Saturday.

They took on the holders Cameroon in, what turned out to be, one of the games of the tournament so far.

Early on, Kenneth Omeruo’s shot bounced around the penalty area before being scrambled in by Odion Ighalo.

1-0 Nigeria after just 19 minutes.

However, Cameroon then scored in the 41st and 44th minute and led at half time.

The Super Eagles look in trouble.

That was until just after the hour mark.

Chidozie Awaziem’s cross picked out Ahmed Musa who chested it down to Ighalo who volleyed home from close range.

The Shànghǎi Shēnhuā forward is now the joint-top scorer at this tournament with three.

It then got better for Nigeria; just three minutes later Ighalo played in Alex Iwobi who finished emphatically.

For the second time, the game turned on it’s head; 3-2 Nigeria.

A brilliant win for Gernot Rohr’s men.

Nigeria are three times AFCON winners and are looking capable of making that four.

They will fancy their chances of winning this one but South Africa have already caused a shock this week.

Will Nigeria avoid the same fate that Egypt suffered on Saturday?
