(Ecofin Agency) – South-African telecom company Vodacom, African arm of Vodafone, announce it is selling operations in Angola, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Ghana.
In the first country, the company plans to divest its Business Africa unit to Internet Technologies Angola (ITA). The selling cost is not disclosed but the agreement is subject to approval from market regulatory authorities.
In Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria, operations will be sold to Synergy Communications while operations in Ghana will be transferred to Vodafone Ghana.
The company said the transactions is in line with its enterprise strategy in Africa, which aims to grow and strengthen its core business. Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom Group said, though the company is selling operations, it is not “exiting any of the territories related to this transaction and remains focused on continuing to deliver exceptional service to our global and multinational clients in these markets through long-term commercial agreements.”
