Sir Sam Jonah To Grace Third Annual FOCOS Fundraising Dinner | Religion

Ghanaian business magnate, Sir Sam Jonah, is Guest of Honor at the Third Annual FOCOS fundraising dinner on Saturday, May, 18, 2019.

The event, organized by the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS), takes place at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra from 7 pm to 10 pm. Proceeds from the event will go towards patients at FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital, who suffer from various musculoskeletal conditions and are unable to afford treatment. Typically, surgical costs for many of these major procedures average between $15,000 and $20,000, which is about 10 to 20 percent of the actual costs in places like the US. These high subsidizations are possible based on the Foundation’s philanthropic partners around the world, who make regular contributions towards the work of FOCOS.

FOCOS’s mission is to help address the growing, and often neglected burden of musculoskeletal diseases. Many people, especially children, from poor households suffer from clubfoot, spinal deformities and bowed legs. Adult patients with arthritis of the knee and hips, as well as, other infectious and rheumatic diseases also form part of the population in need of support.

Sir Sam Jonah currently serves as Chancellor at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He also chairs the following boards: Equator Exploration Ltd, Scharrig Mining, Equinox Minerals, Uramin, Moto Goldmines Ltd and Range Resources Ltd. In addition, he has occupied influential positions at the Commonwealth Africa Investment Fund (Comafin), the Advisory Council of the UN Secretary General’s Global Compact, President Olusegun Obasanjo’s International Investment Advisory Council on Nigeria, President Thabo Mbeki’s International Investment Advisory Council of South Africa as well as the Advisory Board of the London Business School.

His honors include an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree awarded jointly by the Camborne School of Mines and the University of Exeter (UK) in 1996. In June 2003, Sir Sam Jonah became the first Ghanaian to be knighted in the 21st century, when he was presented with an honorary knighthood by the Prince of Wales, in recognition of his achievements as an African businessman, a leading business executive from the Commonwealth, and an international public figure.

Sponsorship packages and tickets for the Third Annual FOCOS Fundraising Dinner are now available and can be purchased online at the Eventbrite website, or in-person, at FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in Pantang, Accra. Interested participants can mark their calendar to join Sir Sam Jonah and the friends of FOCOS to support a worthy cause to make the world stand tall.
