A Prosper Ahiabu equaliser in the second half helped the Black Sattelites qualify for next year’s Africa Youth Championship (AYC) with a 4-2 aggregate over the Young Squirrels of Benin after a 1-1 stalemate in Cotonou.
The national U-20 side managed a draw against a Benin side that took the lead in the first half after several attempts but a goal by Ahiabu ensured that Ghana got the nod to participate in next year’s continental competition.
Having earned a deserved 3-1 win in the first leg at home a week ago, coach Jilly Cobblah’s side entered into yesterday’s game as favourites to go through with a two-goal advantage.
The Satellites won comfortably at home through a brilliant brace by Richard Danso and a goal from skipper Ishaku Konda in what was a well deserved comeback victory.
Ghana have completed the list for the 2019 tournament, which already has qualified teams like Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Mali, South Africa and Senegal which is scheduled for February 24 to March 10, 2019.
The top four teams from the Africa championship will qualify as Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) representatives for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be hosted in Poland in May.
