KNUST makes Ghana proud, wins ICT skill contest – BusinessGhana News

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has made Ghana proud, winning the ‘Best University in Enterprise Network’ award, at the Huawei ICT Skill Competition, held in South Africa.

In excess of 1,000 students from over eight universities in countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, participated.It sought to unearth and nurture the region’s finest talent in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

A final year student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the KNUST, Derrick Kweku Dzeha, took the first prize in the Enterprise Network category (Students’ Division).Three other students from the same Department also won various awards with a lecturer at the Department, Dr. K.A. Opare, collecting the “Excellent Tutor” award.

Professor Mark Adom-Asamoah, Provost of the College of Engineering, broke the news to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi and said the University picked six awards in the Enterprise Network category.Two of the winners would be representing the University at the global finals, to take place in Huawei’s international headquarters, China, on May 15, this year.

Prof Adom-Asamoah said the award-winners were presented with certificates, trophies, and other prizes.The competition was in line with Huawei’s effort at supporting governments’ digitization strategies, national visions and plans for growth of critical industries.

It had been specifically designed to foster development for the next generation, who would be responsible for driving digital transformation.Prof Adom-Asamoah described it as a critical initiative for enhancing the quality of future African ICT professionals.
