Dziffa Akua Ametam, a presenter at Citi TV was honoured for her hard work and outstanding contribution to society at the Glitz Women Honours last Saturday at Labadi Beach Hotel.

Dziffa was the Young Star Honouree for 2018, a recognition for her influence and efforts as a social entrepreneur.

After receiving the award, Dziffa recounted the challenges she went through as a young woman to find her voice.

“So I fed off the courage of my friend Melissa who wrote a piece called Reclaiming my Vagina, then I read about Maya Angelou being mute as a child and Gabriel Union being raped at gunpoint.

And as I grew older, I discovered the power of writing from Mariama Ba and the importance of community building from Wangari Mattai.

I fed off the courage, power, and fearlessness of these women to find my own voice.

I started molding the woman I wanted to become,” she said.

Dziffa urged women to utilize opportunities they get to inspire others with their life experiences.

“We dedicate this award to the African girl child who needs just one story. Whatever it is you’re going through, you will survive it and go on to thrive in this business of life.

And when you an opportunity to be on a platform like Glitz, don’t forget to speak. Because there are millions of African children waiting for your story to be told so they can mold themselves into the powerful, confident, fearless women this continent deserves,” she added.
