EnerMech, of Aberdeen, said yesterday it was looking to double revenue from its operations in Africa to £50 million over the next three years.
The energy services firm plans to expand its capabilities in mining, power and petrochemicals on the continent. In the last set of financial results lodged by the firm at Companies House, for 2016, revenue across the company totalled £128.2m, with Africa accounting for £12.8m.
The company has been in the African market since 2012, when it delivered pipeline services on deepwater projects off the coast of West Africa.
It then moved in to South Africa, with the acquisition of lifting firm Water Weights International. EnerMech has since grown in other regions across the continent. Chief executive Doug Duguid said: “Africa is a strategically significant region to EnerMech’s future expansion plans and forms an important strand in taking our business to the next level.”
The company has appointed a new director for Africa to help deliver its ambitious growth target.
Salvatore Cutino will oversee the engineering services firm’s operations there, including more than 150 staff in Angola, Nigeria, Ghana and several locations in South Africa. EnerMech said he had more than 40 years of experience in marine and offshore services, handling large international contracts across a number of sectors. Mr Cutino will be based in Cape Town, South Africa, succeeding Steve Ord who held the role for three years. Mr Ord is relocating to the United Arab Emirates to become EnerMech’s general manager for operations there and in Saudi Arabia. “I am looking forward to taking up where Steve Ord has left off and to using my extensive experience of working across Africa on major industrial projects to add to EnerMech’s success story,” Mr Cutino said.
Mr Duguid added: “I am delighted we have appointed Salvatore Cutino, who has the business acumen and industry track-record to fulfil our ambitions in Africa. He and his team will benefit from the excellent template established by Steve Ord during his three-year tenure. We have a first-rate reputation for delivering process and pipeline, cranes and lifting and valve services in Africa.
“We believe we can replicate this success by expanding our other main service lines, including industrial services, hydraulics and electrical and instrumentation, which will be of value to major infrastructure, construction and industrial projects across the sub-continent.”
